GYM - The Next Generation

Do you feel that your rights are being exercised fully? Are you being respected by adults in authority? No? Have you ever thought about doing something to change this, but have been discouraged because you thought you were the only one?

Well, you 're not! The Gloucester Youth Movement (GYM) is here to benefit you, the young people of Gloucester.

Gloucester Youth Movement [GYM] is a Youth Forum that has been up and running for 4 years. Our aim is to improve facilities for young people in the Gloucester area and to exercise our rights to equality! We meet weekly to discuss issues that concern us as young people. Members consists of young people from all over Gloucester

The Council have recognised what we are trying to achieve and have therefore given us a grant.

If you would like to voice your opinion, or to be involved in the Youth Council, contact GYM now on 01452 396285

Cinema Campaign Success

GYM have just received a letter from UGC Cinema at the Peel Centre to say they have now started charging the adult rate at 16 and not at 14 as it was before. We have won!

At the start of 2002 Gym started a campaign to get a better deal for young people at the cinemas in Gloucester. After numerous letters sent to the three cinemas– UGC, Guildhall and the Olympus Theatre at first only the Guildhall responded by coming to a meeting with us – which was great. We later received a letter from the Olympus who also took our advice to advertise more widely as they already had low prices. UGC responded by saying that they could not increase the adult age from 14 to 16 as we requested.

The hard work and dedication of the Gym members to lower prices has paid off by getting UGC to make it cheaper for young people (aged 14-16) to go to the cinema.
